Kansas City teacher files lawsuit over radical curriculum
November 18, 2024
Caedran Sullivan, a Kansas City teacher and mother, is filing a lawsuit against her school district. The district has been implementing increasingly more DEI trainings for teachers and a new student curriculum centered on the “woke” ideology.
Sullivan claims that throughout its implementation, the school was not following the constitutional protections granted to parents and teachers, one of which is to reject a curriculum that goes against one’s personal beliefs. She further claims that her refusal to teach divisive, anti-White political ideology was met with retribution. The school launched several investigations, organized supervisor meetings, and stripped her of the AP (advanced placement) courses she taught. She appealed to her contract and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, but the requests for appeal and arbitration fell on deaf ears.
Ultimately at the center of Sullivan’s concern is the students. They deserve the best education they can receive, and pushing a radical agenda is not the solution.
“When teachers enter the classroom, we don’t leave our constitutionally protected freedoms at the door. In the best interest of our students and families who deserve better, and in the face of those in the district trying to bully me into submission, I am not afraid to remain true to my beliefs and values. If that means I have to go to court, so be it.”
