Senate Bill Would Protect Parent’s Right to Know What is Happening with Their Children
February 01, 2023
Senator Tim Scott introduced a bill in the Senate that would prohibit federal funding if a school is withholding information from parents about their children. The “PROTECT Kids Act” requires schools that want to keep receiving federal funding to receive consent from parents before the district changes a student’s pronouns or gender identity or allows the student to use a different locker room than corresponds with their biological sex, etc. This ensures that parents know what is happening in schools pertaining to their children.
"Far too often, parents are pushed out of their child’s education—and kids are paying the price. As the party of parents, Republicans are committed to ensuring that parents are always in the driver’s seat when it comes to their child’s upbringing," Scott said in a press release. "I am proud to stand for parental rights and put forth my PROTECT Kids Act to ensure parents remain the lead decision maker in their child’s life."
